DESCRIPTION
6th AMIE Design Challenge
Advancing Minorities’ Interest in Engineering (AMIE) hosts its 6th Annual AMIE Design Challenge at the Black Engineer of the Year Conference on Friday, February 10th from 7:00 PM–10:30 PM at the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center in National Harbor, Maryland.
This AMIE signature program demonstrates the value of the AMIE collaborative partnership. It is also a great way to showcase the innovation and technical expertise of our students.
- Engage students in industry challenges and processes through collaboration with corporate business, government agencies and technical leaders
- Introduce students to new and emerging technologies and how they are used to solve real life problems
- Provide the opportunity for innovative, out of the box thinking, skills development and solution presentations

This year’s Design Challenge will align with the Infrastructure Act and Chips and Science Act. The focus areas will be Clean Water, Urban Infrastructure, Clean Energy, Transportation, Cybersecurity, Semiconductor Manufacturing and Design Ecosystem and access to High-Speed Internet. Students will be introduced to “Design Thinking” and the “Business Model Canvas” to enable them to focus on user outcomes in problem solving and the development of user centric solutions.
Each Sponsor will provide a Technical Advisor to mentor the HBCU Student teams as they develop a Problem Statement and Solution.
The first, second and third place team members and University will receive a monetary award. They will also be invited to attend and present at our 30th Anniversary and Annual Conference in Washington, DC in September 2023.
